Trump Outlines Three Ukraine Strategies – Reuters
Donald Trump’s advisers have put forward three plans to address the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, according to a Reuters report that cites multiple sources familiar with the US president-elect.

While there are some variations among the proposals, all emphasize Kiev's need to cede land to Moscow and abandon its NATO ambitions, as mentioned in an article published on Wednesday.

A former national security official from the Trump administration, who is currently involved in the US government transition, informed Reuters that one of the plans was formulated by the incoming Russia-Ukraine envoy, retired Army Lieutenant-General Keith Kellogg.

The other two plans were designed by Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and Richard Grenell, who previously served as Trump's acting intelligence chief, as stated by the official.

According to the report, Trump's advisers plan to encourage negotiations between the two countries using a "carrots and sticks" approach. This strategy would involve the US ceasing military support to Kiev if Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky declines to enter talks, while increasing arms supplies if Russian President Vladimir Putin shows resistance to diplomatic discussions.

As of last week, Trump had not yet assembled a central working group to develop a cohesive peace initiative, as shared by four advisers under conditions of anonymity.

The success of any agreement between Moscow and Kiev is likely to hinge on direct interactions among Trump, Putin, and Zelensky, the advisers indicated.

During his campaign, Trump claimed he could resolve the conflict between the two nations within 24 hours if reelected, though he did not specify how he intended to accomplish this.

Recently, Zelensky, who had previously been firm in rejecting any concessions to Moscow, has exhibited a shift in his position. In an interview with Kyodo News, he stated that Ukraine "could even cede some territories, which we cannot return today" to Russia, while seeking to reclaim them through diplomatic channels in the future.

The Ukrainian leader further maintained that securing NATO membership for Ukraine must be a critical condition for any peace agreement, arguing it would provide Ukraine with a “strong position” should another conflict arise with Russia.

Last week, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed Moscow's willingness to pursue a diplomatic resolution, noting that addressing the “root causes” of the conflict, including NATO's eastward expansion and the “systematic” infringement of rights of Russian speakers by the Kiev government, would be essential for achieving peace.
