Trump implies Biden and Harris share responsibility for the attempt on his life
The Republican presidential candidate came close to a fatal encounter when a shooter targeted him during a campaign event in July.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has accused his Democratic opponents, Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden, of bearing some responsibility for the assassination attempt on him in the previous month. Trump asserted that the duo's actions hindered Secret Service efforts to safeguard him and promoted rhetoric that might have motivated the assailant.

The assassination attempt occurred when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks shot at Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. Crooks, positioned on a rooftop with a clear line of sight, grazed Trump's right ear with a bullet, resulting in one fatality and two injuries among the crowd. The shooter was killed by Secret Service agents during the incident.

In a discussion with Phil McGraw, known as Dr. Phil, Trump stated, “I think to a certain extent it’s Biden’s fault and Harris’s fault.” He further criticized them for “weaponizing government” against him and extensively applying DOJ resources to target him.

“They weren’t too interested in my health and safety,” Trump continued, elaborating that Harris and Biden complicated Secret Service staffing arrangements.

Trump also mentioned that Harris and Biden's depiction of him as a "threat to democracy" might inspire potential assailants. "Maybe that bullet is because of their rhetoric," he suggested.

In response to the shooting, both political parties in the House of Representatives agreed to establish a bipartisan task force aimed at investigating the event. The task force, consisting of seven Republicans and six Democrats, will probe potential oversights by various levels of law enforcement.

Prior to these developments, Kimberly Cheatle, the director of the Secret Service, resigned following a heated congressional oversight session which criticized her for evasive responses and lack of accountability regarding the security breach.

She admitted to significant failures in protection at the rally, stating, “on July 13, we failed,” an error unmatched in recent decades.
