Trump dismisses boards of U.S. military service academies
The president commented that institutions such as West Point had been infiltrated by what he referred to as “woke” ideology.

“Our Service Academies have been infiltrated by Woke Leftist Ideologues over the last four years,” Trump stated on Truth Social. “I have ordered the immediate dismissal of the Board of Visitors for the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard.” He did not specify when new board members would be appointed.
In his campaign, Trump promised to rid the military of personnel he considered "woke" and has initiated efforts to eliminate diversity initiatives within the Pentagon by executive order.
The focus on service academies comes amid growing concerns from Republican legislators who argue that "woke" literature is infiltrating the curriculum. A report from The Washington Post noted that the U.S. Defense Department has started to limit access to certain books across its educational institutions. Additionally, in response to Trump’s directives, the service academies have already been dismantling student clubs that emphasize diversity; for instance, West Point recently disbanded several, including the Asian-Pacific Forum Club and the National Society of Black Engineers Club.
The boards of visitors usually consist of members appointed by the president and lawmakers from Congress. The Biden administration had also replaced several former Trump appointees on these boards in 2021.
“We will have the strongest Military in History, and that begins by appointing new individuals to these Boards,” Trump asserted in his Monday post. “We must make the Military Academies GREAT AGAIN!”
