Trump directs release of JFK, RFK, and MLK files
US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to declassify government documents related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. during the 1960s, according to multiple news outlets on Thursday.

At a recent victory rally at the Capital One Arena in Washington, Trump reiterated his intention to declassify these documents ahead of his upcoming inauguration.

The assassinations of President Kennedy in 1963, his brother Robert in 1968, and Martin Luther King Jr., also in 1968, continue to provoke controversy and speculation in the United States.

The National Archives and Records Administration houses five million records connected to President Kennedy’s assassination alone. Following a federal mandate in the 1990s for their near-full release by October 2017, the president retains the authority to grant exemptions. Currently, between 3,000 and 4,000 documents remain undisclosed.

During his first term, Trump had made a similar commitment and authorized the release of several documents, but he kept a significant portion classified, citing national security concerns and reported pressure from the CIA and FBI at that time.

A video capturing the moment Trump signed the order has circulated on social media, where he is heard saying, “That is a big one. A lot of people have been waiting for this for years. For decades." He added, “Everything will be revealed” as he signed the documents.
