During the July 13 event, Trump narrowly avoided being fatally wounded when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired at him from a strategically positioned rooftop. Crooks managed to fire multiple shots, narrowly missing Trump but grazing his right ear. The attack resulted in one fatality and two serious injuries among the attendees before Crooks was neutralized by the Secret Service's return fire.
In a recent conversation with psychologist and television personality Dr. Phil, Trump said, “there had to be some great power” involved in his escape from harm.
“The only thing I can think is that God loves our country and he thinks we’re gonna bring our country back,” Trump shared.
“It has to be God. I mean how can you say it’s luck when it’s, you know, twenty million to one?” he reiterated.
Trump also commented on the shifting dynamics of the upcoming presidential race, expressing his concerns about facing Kamala Harris, who replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee. He implied that a victory for him could signify a divine intention for him not only to lead but possibly to fulfill a greater purpose beyond national boundaries.
Trump praised the Secret Service for their response during the attack but indicated that there were coordination issues with local police during the crisis.
Furthermore, Trump criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden, suggesting that their actions and rhetoric contributed to the hostile environment that led to the attack.
"Maybe that bullet is because of their rhetoric," Trump posited.
The former president reiterated his stance on the legitimacy of the 2020 election results, claiming he would have won California under fair circumstances.
“If Jesus came down and was the vote counter, I would win California,” he asserted.
