Trump asserts Harris has pulled out of debate
US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump disclosed that his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, has opted out of participating in a debate scheduled to air on Fox News on September 4.

Trump, who has not yet debated Harris directly, was initially slated to debate President Joe Biden on the same date. Biden, however, exited the presidential race in early August citing mental capacity concerns, following a problematic debate with Trump in late June. Harris was then confirmed as the Democratic nominee soon after Biden's departure.

Although Trump initially claimed the debate was canceled due to Biden’s withdrawal, he subsequently agreed to go head-to-head with Harris. Additionally, Trump has suggested holding separate debates on Fox News and NBC News later in September.

The Harris campaign has not officially confirmed Trump's assertion regarding the debate cancellation, but previously indicated a preference for participating in a different debate scheduled on ABC on September 10.

In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump remarked, “Comrade Kamala Harris has just informed us that she will NOT do the FoxNews Debate on September 4th.” He also commented that he was “not surprised” by this decision, reasoning that defending her record would be “very difficult.”

Instead of the debate, Trump announced he will conduct a Tele-Town Hall on September 4, facilitated by Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

The Harris campaign earlier declared a commitment to two presidential and one vice-presidential debates, dismissing further debate negotiations. Michael Tyler, the communications director for Harris' campaign, indicated future debate plans, stating, “Assuming Donald Trump actually shows up on September 10 to debate Vice President Harris, then Governor Walz will see JD Vance on October 1 and the American people will have another opportunity to see the vice president and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October.”
