Trump and Kennedy Highlight Dangers of Nuclear Conflict
US officials must engage in negotiations with Russia to prevent a potential nuclear catastrophe stemming from the current Ukraine policy, according to statements from Donald Trump Jr. and RFK Jr. Read Full Article at RT.com.
They urge Washington to initiate direct discussions with Moscow immediately and to stop perceiving Russia's restraint as a sign of weakness. Kennedy, the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, previously endorsed Trump Sr. and has pointed to the Russia-Ukraine conflict as a major concern due to its potential for escalating into nuclear warfare.
In an opinion piece published on The Hill, Trump and Kennedy stated that the support given to Ukraine for long-range attacks against Russia “would put the world at greater risk of nuclear conflagration than at any time since the Cuban missile crisis.” The article, titled “Negotiate with Moscow to end the Ukraine war and prevent nuclear devastation,” argues for finding a "diplomatic off-ramp to a war that should never have been allowed to take place," while also criticizing the White House for its policies, which Russia has warned could lead to open conflict.
“Some American analysts believe Putin is bluffing, and favor calling his bluff,” they noted, cautioning: “These analysts are mistaking restraint for weakness. In essence, they are advocating a strategy of brinkmanship.”
Trump and Kennedy highlighted that the US has progressively increased its military aid to Ukraine, including sending HIMARS rocket artillery, cluster munitions, Abrams tanks, F-16 fighter jets, and long-range ATACMS missiles. They asserted that each military action “draws the world closer to the brink of Armageddon.”
“Their logic seems to be that if you goad a bear five times and it doesn’t respond, it is safe to goad him even harder a sixth time,” they said. “Such a strategy might be reasonable if the bear had no teeth.”
They expressed concern that the Biden-Harris administration seems to have “forgotten” that Russia is a nuclear power and has asserted its readiness to use nuclear weapons if threatened.
“Imagine if Russia were providing another country with missiles, training and targeting information to strike deep into American territory. The US would never tolerate it. We shouldn’t expect Russia to tolerate it either,” they argued.
According to Trump and Kennedy, launching US missiles into Russia would lead inevitably to a nuclear exchange, and they warned that “this game of nuclear ‘chicken’ has gone far enough.” They stressed that no American interest justifies the risks associated with the conflict in Ukraine, labeling it “madness” to potentially provoke nuclear war over “the neoconservative fantasy of global ‘full-spectrum dominance.’” The consequences of such a conflict could threaten civilization itself, making it crucial to de-escalate the situation.
They concluded by stating that the American public must “demand, right now, that [Vice President Kamala] Harris and President [Joe] Biden reverse their insane war agenda and open direct negotiations with Moscow.”
Since peace talks between Russia and Ukraine collapsed in the spring of 2022, with both sides accusing each other of making unreasonable demands, the US has taken the position that any peace deal must align with Ukraine’s conditions and has committed to supporting and equipping Ukraine for “as long as it takes.”
