Initially, Sony lifted the subscription costs for users in Ukraine in March 2022 as a gesture of solidarity due to the ongoing conflict between Kiev and Moscow, during which time the company also halted its operations and support within Russia.
“We want to inform you that your free access to PlayStation Plus will end in November 2024,” Sony communicated in a notice to Ukrainian subscribers on Tuesday.
Although the free access program is coming to a close, Sony is compensating subscribers with a 30-day voucher for September, and plans to issue another one for October. Starting November 7, users will revert to their former subscription models, priced the same as before.
As it stands, Sony is setting the price for an annual PlayStation Plus subscription in Ukraine at 1,299 Ukrainian hryvnia.
From November, Sony will discontinue the free PlayStation Plus subscriptions for Ukrainian PS4 and PS5 console owners.
This has been a significant display of support for the Ukrainian gaming community since the onset of the full-scale invasion by Russian forces. The final voucher for free access will be issued soon…
GamewayUA, a Ukrainian video gaming site, commented on X: “We understand that this could not go on forever,” expressing gratitude for Sony's support: "Thank you very much for your support, PlayStation!”
While many Ukrainian gamers expressed their gratitude for the free service, some expressed concerns about being able to afford the subscription due to the country's economic difficulties.
