NBA Scoring Record Shattered by LeBron James
The LA Lakers star reached a historic milestone of 38,388 points during the team's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night, officially becoming the NBA's all-time leading scorer by surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The game at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles was briefly halted after James made a fadeaway jump shot in the third quarter to break the previous record of 38,387 points held by former Lakers legend Abdul-Jabbar, who was present for the memorable moment. Both Abdul-Jabbar and NBA commissioner Adam Silver came onto the court to congratulate the 38-year-old James.

“To be able to be in the presence of such a legend as great as Kareem, it’s very humbling. Please give a standing ovation to the Captain, please,” James remarked, honoring Abdul-Jabbar in front of the audience.

James expressed gratitude to his family and fans for enabling him to “be a part of something I’ve always dreamed about.”

In a subsequent press conference, the Lakers superstar shared that he "kind of teared up a little bit" upon scoring the record-breaking basket, a feat accomplished in his 20th NBA season.

While it took Abdul-Jabbar 1,560 games to set his record back in April 1984, James has achieved this milestone in just 1,410 games.

James garnered substantial media attention during his high school years, stepping into the NBA spotlight at the age of 18. Over his illustrious career, he has won four NBA Championships, with two titles coming from his time with the Miami Heat, alongside one each with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Lakers.

Looking ahead, James expressed a desire to play alongside his 18-year-old son, Bronny, who is expected to be eligible for the NBA draft in 2024.

Despite his impressive performance, finishing the game with 38 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, the Lakers fell to the Thunder by a score of 130-133.
