Billionaire Elon Musk has indicated he is open to taking a role within the US government if Republican nominee Donald Trump is elected president. Recently, Trump suggested the possibility of giving Musk an advisory position in his administration.
Following the assassination attempt on Trump last month, Musk showed his support for the former president's candidacy with a post on X: “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery.”
In recent months, Musk has taken a more critical view of Democratic President Joe Biden.
On Tuesday, Musk communicated his readiness to assist Trump, stating: “I am willing to serve.”
One user suggested that Musk could lead a new department called the “Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE),” referencing the 'Doge meme' and Dogecoin cryptocurrency. Musk humorously responded that this is the “perfect name.”
In an interview with Reuters on Monday, Trump praised Musk, calling him a “very smart guy.” He added, “I certainly would [appoint Musk to an advisory role], if he would do it, I certainly would.”
Last week, Musk hosted a live interview with Trump on the X platform, where he urged the presidential candidate to form a “government efficiency commission” to improve the allocation of taxpayer money. Trump responded that Musk would be an ideal choice for such a role.
