Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk attended a Donald Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, declaring his support for the Republican nominee as a protector of democracy in the United States.
During the rally, an enthusiastic crowd watched as Trump, standing behind bulletproof glass, introduced Musk, describing him as a “truly incredible guy” who will help secure the future of America. Wearing a black baseball cap with the Trump campaign slogan “Make America Great Again,” Musk quickly climbed onto the stage and shook hands with the former president.
Musk addressed the audience, referencing the rally's location, where Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in July. “The true test of someone’s character is how they behave under fire. We had one president who could not climb a flight of stairs, and another who was fist-pumping after getting shot,” he said, alluding to an incident involving President Joe Biden losing his footing while boarding Air Force One.
“Fight, fight, fight! Blood coming down the face!” he exclaimed, raising his fist enthusiastically.
In a more sober tone, Musk, who owns X and identifies as a “free speech absolutist,” declared that the upcoming presidential election in November is “the most important election of our lifetime… The other side wants to take away your freedom of speech. They want to take away your right to bear arms. They want to take away your right to vote, effectively,” he stated.
“President Trump must win to preserve the Constitution. He must win to preserve democracy in America,” the billionaire emphasized, as the crowd responded with chants of “Elon Musk.”
Despite claiming political neutrality in the past, Musk has shown increasing support for Trump in recent months, officially endorsing him after the assassination attempt. He has been vocal in his criticisms of the Biden administration and Democrats, citing concerns over government overreach and excessive regulations, along with worries about illegal immigration, a key issue in Trump’s campaign.
In September, Trump promised to create a Musk-led government efficiency commission to review the entire federal framework if he is elected.
