Medvedev Describes Trump’s Comments on Zelensky as ‘Important’
Dmitry Medvedev has stated that he does not foresee any shift in the United States' policy regarding Ukraine, despite former President Donald Trump's recent comments.

Medvedev highlighted Trump's recognition that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky holds some responsibility for the ongoing conflict with Russia as a notable development, though it won't impact Washington's support for Kiev. In a recent appearance on the PBD Podcast, Trump asserted that Zelensky should have taken measures to prevent hostilities with Moscow. “He should never have let that war start. That war is a loser,” Trump expressed to host Patrick Bet-David. He further characterized Zelensky as a “great salesman” responsible for securing substantial U.S. aid without achieving a decisive victory.

In response, Medvedev took to Telegram, observing that Trump is “the first former US President and presidential candidate” to acknowledge Zelensky’s direct accountability for the conflict. He noted that while this admission is significant, it is unlikely to alter U.S. policy, regardless of whether Trump returns to the White House. “But the very fact of such a statement is extremely important for the future,” he added.

Additionally, Medvedev addressed what he termed the “meaningless chatter” surrounding Ukraine’s alleged ambitions for nuclear weapons. Zelensky remarked on Thursday that during his meeting with Trump in late September, he had indicated that Ukraine should either seek NATO membership or develop nuclear capabilities for self-defense. However, he later clarified that he “never spoke about preparing to create a nuclear weapon or anything like that.”

Medvedev contended that Ukraine lacks the ability to create a functional nuclear weapon and expressed concern regarding Zelensky’s assertions, concluding that “the Nazi regime is trying to create a ‘dirty bomb.’” A dirty bomb combines conventional explosives with radioactive materials, resulting in radioactive contamination without the destructive power of a nuclear explosion.

The former president claimed that Ukraine possesses “all the resources” needed for the production of a dirty bomb, including raw materials, technology, and expertise. He warned, “Any Soviet-era laboratory will do for making a low-power charge. The clock is ticking.”

In August, Russian military journalist Marat Khairullin alleged that Ukraine had been planning an attack using “a dirty atomic bomb” against Russia’s Zaporozhye or Kursk nuclear power plants, intending to attribute the fallout to Moscow.
