Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a warning, indicating that the US will be considered complicit if Israel proceeds with its threat to execute a significant strike on the Islamic Republic.
During a press briefing on Friday, US President Joe Biden was asked whether he had a “good understanding” of Israel's possible retaliatory actions in response to Iran's missile barrage on October 1. Biden answered affirmatively, saying “Yes and yes,” but chose not to delve into further specifics.
On Saturday, Araghchi expressed his concerns on social media platform X, stating, “anybody with knowledge or understanding of ‘how and when Israel was going to attack Iran,’ and/or providing the means and backing for such folly, should logically be held accountable for any possible causality.”
Although the foreign minister did not explicitly mention Washington in his statement, it included a link to a Reuters article in which Biden acknowledged his awareness of Israeli plans to target Iran.
CNN reported on Saturday that the US is conducting an investigation following leaks of highly classified intelligence indicating Israel’s preparations for potential strikes on Iran.
Two documents were shared on Telegram on Friday. One document, reportedly from the Pentagon’s National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, noted that the Israeli military “continued key munitions preparations and covert UAV activity on October 16, almost certainly for a strike on Iran.”
The second document provided a comprehensive report on a “large-force employment exercise” carried out by the Israeli Air Force on October 15 and 16.
On October 1, Iran launched nearly 200 ballistic missiles towards Israel, claiming it was retaliation for the recent deaths of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, as well as an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps general.
In response, Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has issued threats of a “deadly, pinpoint accurate, and surprising” retaliation, with some Israeli officials advocating for strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure, specifically targeting nuclear facilities.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated on Thursday that the nation would make “final decisions” regarding retaliatory measures “based on our national interest.”
