Former UK Defense Minister Detained in Operation Targeting Pedophiles
Ivor Caplin, a former Labour MP and under-secretary for Defense, has been arrested after being confronted by a child protection activist group known as “pedophile hunters.” These activists accused him of attempting to engage with a 15-year-old boy, according to official reports.

On Saturday, social media footage surfaced showing a man resembling Caplin being confronted by members of the Stop Stings vigilante group at a railway station, followed by his handcuffing by the police.

The Stop Stings group claimed to The Sun that they had arranged a meeting with Caplin while posing as an “underage boy.” Dean Rowland, the leader of the group, asserted that the activists “had done a lot of research before this meeting took place.”

He added, “We have been speaking to the individual for months over WhatsApp,” and stated, “all of the evidence has been handed over to the police now and we hope that justice will be done.”

As the activists questioned Caplin about the alleged messages, he denied any wrongdoing, insisting he was not there to meet any children.

In the wake of the incident, Sussex Police confirmed that “a local 66-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, January 11 and currently remains in custody.” They stated that “this is an ongoing and active investigation.”

Caplin, who identifies as an “LGBT patron,” represented Hove as MP from 1997 to 2005 and served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defense during Tony Blair's administration. He was suspended from the Labour Party in June 2024 due to unspecified “serious” allegations.

In the days before his arrest, Caplin had publicly criticized tech billionaire Elon Musk over comments made regarding UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and MP Jess Phillips. Musk had accused Starmer of neglecting to prosecute child grooming gangs, predominantly composed of Pakistani men, during his tenure as Director of Public Prosecutions and had referred to Phillips as a “rape genocide apologist” for opposing a public inquiry into historical child abuse.

Caplin condemned Musk’s statements as “completely and utterly unfound[ed]” and termed them “unacceptable.”

In response to the news of Caplin's arrest, Musk tweeted, “what a creep” on X.
