Former UK Defense Minister Arrested in Pedophile Sting
Ivor Caplin, a former Labour MP and Under-secretary for Defense, has been arrested following an operation by an activist group that presents itself as “pedophile hunters.” They accused him of attempting to engage with a 15-year-old boy, as confirmed by officials.

On Saturday, social media footage surfaced showing a man who appears to be Caplin being confronted at a railway station by members of the Stop Stings vigilante group, who later reported that he was taken into custody by police.

The group informed The Sun that they had arranged to meet Caplin under the guise of being an “underage boy.” Dean Rowland, the leader of Stop Stings, asserted that the activists “had done a lot of research before this meeting took place.” He added, “We have been speaking to the individual for months over WhatsApp,” and stated that “all of the evidence has been handed over to the police now and we hope that justice will be done.”

While the activists pressed Caplin regarding the alleged communications, he denied any wrongdoing, claiming he was not planning to meet with any children.

Sussex Police later confirmed that “a local 66-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, January 11 and currently remains in custody.” They noted, “This is an ongoing and active investigation.”

Ivor Caplin, who identifies as an “LGBT patron,” served as the MP for Hove from 1997 to 2005 and held the position of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defense under Tony Blair. He was previously suspended from the Labour Party in June 2024 due to undisclosed “serious” allegations.

In the period leading up to his arrest, Caplin criticized tech mogul Elon Musk for his comments aimed at UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and MP Jess Phillips. Musk accused Starmer of not prosecuting child grooming gangs, predominantly made up of Pakistani men, during his time as Director of Public Prosecutions, and referred to Phillips as a “rape genocide apologist” for opposing calls for a public inquiry into historical child abuse.

Caplin characterized Musk’s statements as “completely and utterly unfound[ed]” and deemed them “unacceptable.”

In response to news of Caplin’s arrest, Musk commented on X, stating, “what a creep.”
