Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of X, expressed his support for Robinson, who was sentenced to 18 months in prison in October for making defamatory claims about a Syrian refugee in a documentary. Robinson, known by his real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, claimed that a Syrian teenager, who was a victim of an assault at a Yorkshire secondary school in 2018, had a history of violence against female students. Musk stated, ”Free Tommy Robinson!” in a post on X, which also included a link to the contentious documentary.
Robinson has positioned himself as a prominent critic of mass immigration and Islam, becoming a vocal opponent of the ‘grooming gangs’ scandal. This scandal involved Asian men systematically raping and abusing thousands of underage girls in various northern English towns over the past twenty years, with most perpetrators being of Pakistani descent and victims primarily being white British girls.
Musk highlighted that successive British governments have neglected to properly investigate the scandal, and police have often mishandled cases, leading to victims being arrested instead of the offenders. He pointed out specific instances, such as one in Rotherham where a father was arrested for attempting to rescue his daughter from a home where she was being raped, and another case where a rape victim was detained without the police interviewing the alleged assailants.
Characterizing the situation as “state-sponsored evil,” Musk remarked on the failures surrounding the police response to the scandal. He criticized figures like Lord Ahmed, the Muslim mayor of Rotherham later found guilty of sexually assaulting children, and turned his attention to Keir Starmer, who was head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) from 2008 to 2013. Musk stated, “In the UK, serious crimes such as rape require the Crown Prosecution Service’s approval for the police to charge suspects,” and he asked, “Who was the head of the CPS when rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice? Keir Starmer, 2008 -2013.”
Musk further claimed, “Starmer was complicit in the RAPE OF BRITAIN,” adding that the prime minister “must go and he must face charges for his complicity in the worst mass crime in the history of Britain.”
Additionally, Musk shared a poll reflecting significant discontent with Starmer’s government, asserting a need for a new election in the UK. He described Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party as “the only way to save” the country. Musk previously met Farage at Mar-a-Lago, US President-elect Donald Trump's Florida estate, where some reports suggested he promised as much as $100 million to support the British party; however, Musk refuted those claims.
