Although Harris is generally viewed as the victor of the recent debate broadcasted by ABC News, polls conducted afterwards indicate minimal shift in public opinion, with various unofficial polls suggesting that some undecided voters favored Trump after the event. Following the debate, Harris' campaign promptly requested a second debate. Initially, Trump seemed receptive, mentioning to Fox News that he would participate if it were hosted by "a fair network."
Nonetheless, Trump stated on his Truth Social page that he has no plans to debate Harris again. "When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, ‘I WANT A REMATCH’," Trump posted. "Polls clearly show that I won the debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ radical left candidate, on Tuesday night, and she immediately called for a second debate."
Trump had originally proposed three debates: one by Fox News on September 4, another by ABC on September 10, and a third by NBC News on a tentative date. Harris's team consented only to the ABC event, though Trump hesitated to commit, citing "ridiculous and biased" coverage by the network.
“She was a no-show at the Fox Debate, and refused to do NBC and CBS,” Trump elaborated, concluding: “KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”
“We owe it to the voters to have another debate,” Harris' campaign reiterated on X.
At the debate, ABC hosts David Muir and Linsey Davis, the latter a former sorority sister of Harris at Howard University, moderated. They interrupted and fact-checked Trump numerous times but did not scrutinize Harris equally, despite both candidates making dubious statements.
“So many things I said were debunked, like totally debunked,” Trump commented to Fox News. “But she could say anything she wanted. My stuff was right, but they would correct you,” he remarked, labeling the debate as “totally rigged.”
