China showcases 38 examples in the "Beautiful Rivers and Lakes" initiative
On Tuesday, China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment unveiled 38 exemplary cases as part of the Beautiful Rivers and Lakes project.

These cases illustrate the commitment of local authorities to safeguard the environment, conserve water resources, and protect aquatic ecosystems while fostering a harmonious relationship between communities and water bodies.

Notably, the Qinghe River in Beijing and the Mangdao River in Yangzhou City, located in Jiangsu Province, emphasize a coordinated approach toward water resource management. These initiatives are geared towards creating a new model for aquatic environment preservation.

In Xuancheng City, located in Anhui Province, and Foshan City, found in Guangdong Province, local governments have effectively converted ecological strengths into economic gains by tapping into the value of ecological products. This advancement promotes high-quality development along Anhui’s Qingyi River and Guangdong’s Gaoming River.

Furthermore, the Tongbo River, which is managed collaboratively by Chongqing Municipality and Sichuan Province, is lauded for its integrated governance system that links the river's upstream and downstream segments.

This year, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment revealed that 2,573 water bodies under national surveillance have been incorporated into the Beautiful Rivers and Lakes initiative. Projections indicate that by 2027, around 40 percent of these water bodies will satisfy the program's standards, characterized by clear waters, lush banks, and rich aquatic life. Since the project's inception in 2021, a total of 94 exceptional cases have been showcased.
