Typhoon Krathon Results in 2 Fatalities, 102 Injuries in Taiwan Region
As of Wednesday evening, Typhoon Krathon had resulted in two fatalities and 102 injuries in the Taiwan region of China, as reported by the local emergency operation department.
The Taitung and Pingtung Counties have raised the number of red alerts for mudslides to 44, while 21 roads across Taiwan have been closed as a precaution. Furthermore, it is anticipated that 99 international and cross-Straits flights in Taiwan will be canceled, and all local flights have been suspended. In terms of maritime travel, four cross-Straits routes and 30 voyages have been halted, along with the cancellation of all 10 inter-island routes and 131 voyages.
As of Wednesday evening, a total of 58,109 households experienced power outages, with 3,490 still without electricity. Efforts to restore power are ongoing.
According to the National Meteorological Center of China, Krathon was located northeast of the South China Sea on Wednesday morning, approximately 125 kilometers southwest of Kaohsiung City. The maximum wind speed observed near its center reached 48 meters per second, categorizing it as a level-15 gale.
The typhoon is projected to move northeast at a speed of 5 to 10 kilometers per hour and is expected to make landfall on Taiwan’s southwestern coast between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
In response to the storms caused by Krathon, East China's Fujian Province has announced the suspension of most of its passenger ferry services, as reported by local maritime authorities.
