Xi urges ecological volunteers to advocate for water preservation
Xi emphasizes the importance of environmental volunteers in advocating for water conservation efforts.
In a letter responding to volunteers at the Danjiangkou Reservoir in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, ahead of China's second National Ecology Day on Thursday, Xi, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasized the importance of their contributions.
The Danjiangkou Reservoir serves as a key water source for the middle route of China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project, a major initiative for which Xi issued significant guidelines when the first phase commenced water supply in 2014.
Over the last ten years, considerable efforts have been directed toward protecting the reservoir's water quality, involving both officials and local residents, including environmental volunteers. Recently, these volunteers reached out to Xi to share their experiences and reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding the reservoir's water quality.
In his reply, Xi commended the volunteers' commitment, stating that widespread public involvement has resulted in "the water in the reservoir area clearer, the mountains greener and the environment more beautiful."
Highlighting the strategic significance of the water diversion project, Xi underscored its importance for the long-term development and well-being of the populace, urging ongoing efforts to protect the ecological environment surrounding the water source.
He also encouraged the volunteers to inspire others to consciously conserve water and collaborate in creating a beautiful China, contributing to the modernization of a harmonious relationship between humanity and nature.
Additionally, Xi conveyed warm regards to environmental protection workers and volunteers nationwide in his letter.
