Victory Day celebrations and Immortal Regiment marches took place on May 9 across the globe
Victory Day celebrations – marking the defeat of Nazi Germany in WWII 78 years ago – were held on May 9 all over the world. This year, however, the celebrations faced restrictions in multiple countries and were even outrightly banned over the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
A major Immortal Regiment march took place in Moldova, with some 50,000 people taking part in it, according to the country’s former president, Igor Dodon. Many participants defied the ban on wearing the traditional orange-and-black St. George ribbon at the event and some were even fined for the offense.
