Musk has denied accusations of making a Nazi salute, labeling the claims as a "dirty trick" from critics who should seek better ways to criticize their adversaries than labeling "everyone Hitler."
WDJT-TV, where meteorologist Sam Kuffel had been employed since 2019, has confirmed her exit but has not provided an official explanation in an internal memo or publicly, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The station referred to the situation as a "personal issue," although Kuffel reportedly lost her job the day after she commented about Musk’s gesture on Instagram.
The TV station has removed Kuffel’s biography from its website and no longer features her in its weather segment, while still maintaining articles she authored. Her Instagram account has been made private, but screenshots of her posts have been shared online. She has not made any public statements regarding the incident.
Prior to her time at WDJT-TV, Kuffel worked at WAOW-TV in Wausau after earning a degree in atmospheric science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The Anti-Defamation League, an organization that monitors anti-Semitism and hate speech, characterized Musk’s gesture as “awkward” but did not classify it as a Nazi salute. Additionally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, currently facing an International Criminal Court warrant concerning genocide charges, has expressed support for Musk by labeling him as "a friend of Israel."
