US intelligence officers claim Russia employs AI for election targeting, according to Reuters
American intelligence officials have reportedly asserted that Moscow is working to enhance Donald Trump’s prospects against Kamala Harris.

An unnamed US intelligence official, cited by Reuters, alleged that Russia is utilizing artificial intelligence to manipulate the US presidential election and is more capable in this arena than any other nation. Moscow has consistently denied any interference in foreign elections, including those in the US, affirming its respect for the choices made by voters.

During a media briefing, the official from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence discussed the alleged use of AI technology by Russia and other countries to impact the upcoming US presidential vote in November.

According to the representative, AI-generated content from Russian authorities aligns with “Russia’s broader efforts to boost the former president’s [Donald Trump’s] candidacy and denigrate the vice president [Kamala Harris] and the Democratic Party, including through conspiratorial narratives,” as reported by Reuters.

The official highlighted that Russia demonstrates a greater level of sophistication and understanding of the US electoral system. He referenced a July announcement by the Department of Justice, which asserted that officials had disrupted a suspected AI-driven campaign spreading pro-Kremlin propaganda through 1,000 social media accounts in the US and beyond.

In addition, China and Iran were condemned by Washington for allegedly using AI to extend their influence. The official noted that Beijing employs the technology in broader efforts to shape global perceptions of China, as well as to amplify polarizing political issues in the US. Tehran is accused of generating social media posts and producing “inauthentic news articles for websites that claim to be real news sites” utilizing AI.

Earlier this month, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that the upcoming US presidential election is “not a priority interest” for Russia, emphasizing that Moscow is “focused on domestic problems and agenda.”
