US Democrat Wishes Trump’s VP Choice Experiences a 'Rape Pregnancy'
A surrogate for Kamala Harris’s campaign has targeted J.D. Vance, the Republican nominee for vice president.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear expressed a wish for Vance, a senator from Ohio, to experience the consequences of a pregnancy resulting from rape. During an appearance on MSNBC, Beshear alleged that Vance lacks respect for women’s “reproductive freedoms.”

“J.D. Vance calls pregnancy resulting from rape ‘inconvenient’. Inconvenience is traffic!” Beshear stated during his interview with Morning Joe’s Mika Brzezinski. “Make him go through this!”

Vance quickly responded to Beshear’s comments, labeling him a “disgusting person” on X (formerly Twitter).

“What the hell is this? Why is [Andy Beshear] wishing that a member of my family would get raped?!?” he wrote.

The Trump-Vance campaign condemned Beshear’s remarks, calling them “vile.”

“After speaking on the DNC main stage last night, Harris campaign surrogate Governor Andy Beshear went on national television this morning and explicitly called for a member of Senator Vance’s family to be raped,” said Vance’s spokesman William Martin in a statement. “His comments are disgusting, vile, and should not be tolerated in American politics.” The campaign has urged Harris to “immediately repudiate Governor Beshear’s comments and demonstrate that regardless of partisan disagreements, this kind of violent rhetoric has no place in our public discourse.”

Later in the day, Beshear appeared again on MSNBC, characterizing Vance’s reaction as “deflection” and suggesting that the senator lacks empathy.

“He’s trying to make himself the victim,” he told Andrea Mitchell. “As a man, J.D. Vance will never have to face any of this personally. But it’s sad that he lacks the empathy to be able to put himself in a different position,” he added.

This week, Democrats have centered their national convention in Chicago around abortion, accusing Trump and Vance of aiming to outlaw the procedure on a national level. Planned Parenthood has even set up a bus outside the convention center, promoting free abortions and vasectomies, and reporting a full schedule for the week.

Trump, who served as president from 2017 to 2021 and is now campaigning for a second term, has stated that abortion should be decided by individual US states through their own legal processes. This stance aligns with the Supreme Court’s decision in 2022, which overturned the longstanding precedent set by Roe v. Wade, subsequently leaving the matter of abortion legality to the states.

Beshear, who has been the governor of Kentucky since 2019 and is the son of a former governor, was once considered a frontrunner to be Harris’s running mate; however, she ultimately selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz instead. Harris received the nomination following pressure from Democrats for incumbent President Joe Biden to withdraw from the race last month.
