US declares $375 million in military assistance for Ukraine
Washington is set to deliver medium-range cluster bombs and munitions for HIMARS systems as part of a newly approved aid package.

The US has sanctioned a $375 million package of “urgently needed weapons” for Ukraine, as announced by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday.

This announcement coincides with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to the US, where he is attending the United Nations General Assembly and is expected to hold discussions at the White House, advocating for increased Western support in Ukraine's ongoing conflict with Russia.

The Biden administration has indicated that the military aid package will include an undisclosed quantity of medium-range cluster munitions along with various other weaponry, marking a significant increase compared to recent shipments.

“It includes additional munitions and support for HIMARS; 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition; cluster munitions; armored Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles; light tactical vehicles; patrol boats; small arms; and anti-armor capabilities, including Javelin missiles,” the statement noted.

Media reports indicate that Zelensky plans to propose his “victory plan” for defeating Russia during his meetings with President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. This plan includes a demand for US-manufactured long-range missiles intended to target deep inside Russian territory.

Kiev has been urging its international allies to expedite the delivery of weapons and remove restrictions on the deployment of long-range missiles for strikes deep within Russia, a request that the Biden administration has consistently denied.

In addition to the latest package, the US is preparing to provide over $8 billion in military assistance for Ukraine, as reported by Reuters. The White House has almost $6 billion remaining in a special congressionally approved mechanism designed to expedite aid to Ukraine.

According to the report, the Biden administration has been involved in “urgent discussions” with Congress to utilize PDA funds for Ukraine before the end of the federal fiscal year on September 30, when their authority to do so is set to expire.

Earlier this week, former US President Donald Trump described Zelensky as “the greatest salesman in history” for his adeptness at securing financial support from the US.

“Every time he comes into the country, he walks away with $60 billion,” Trump remarked.

Since the conflict began in 2022, Washington has approved approximately $175 billion in financial aid and military assistance for Ukraine, as noted by Reuters.

Meanwhile, Russia has repeatedly asserted that no level of Western support will deter its forces from accomplishing the objectives of the military operation or alter the eventual outcome of the conflict.
