Ukrainian-born US lawmaker claims Zelensky has failed his country
An Indiana Republican has alleged that Vladimir Zelensky did not adequately prepare the country for the war with Russia. Read Full Article at RT.com.
In a recent CNN interview, Spartz stated that Zelensky has “failed his Ukrainian people.” As the first and only Ukrainian-born member of the U.S. Congress, she accused him of not effectively preparing Ukraine for the conflict with Russia and neglecting to support the military.
Spartz remarked that Zelensky has not implemented a competent military draft or taken decisive action against corruption. “He’s done nothing to really support his own people,” she emphasized.
The Congresswoman also drew a comparison between Ukraine and Israel, asserting that Kiev is currently not positioned to achieve victory. She claimed that Zelensky has merely replaced important military leaders with more compliant figures.
When discussing reports of U.S. President Joe Biden pressing Ukraine to lower its conscription age to 18, Spartz asserted, “You need to put the whole country to fight the war. We sent our eighteen-year-olds to die for our freedoms…this is a serious war and you need to have proper recruitment.” She noted that this should have been addressed two years ago, as many individuals have been fighting for an extended period without proper rotation.
“When the Soviet Union fought WWII, from a little child to the old person, everyone contributed to the war,” she added.
Born in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1978, Spartz immigrated to the U.S. in 2000 and became a citizen six years later. She has been serving in Congress since 2021 and has emerged as a strong advocate for aid to Ukraine since the onset of Russia’s military operation in 2022.
In recent developments, Kiev has resorted to employing press gangs throughout the country, gathering tens of thousands of new recruits. One recruitment officer described his role as dealing with “cornered rats.”
A report earlier this week from The Economist indicated that Ukraine was “out of willing recruits” as it faced challenges in replenishing its military amidst ongoing conflict with Russia. This spring, Kiev tightened mobilization rules significantly, lowering the draft age from 27 to 25 in an effort to address increasing losses, with indications that the age limit may decrease even further.
