Ukrainian-born congresswoman charges Telegraph with dishonesty
Ukrainian-born Republican Congresswoman Victoria Spartz has accused the Daily Telegraph of misrepresenting her remarks regarding Ukraine's potential territorial concessions to Russia. Spartz suggested that the UK newspaper might have received...

On Monday, the Telegraph published an article in which Spartz indicated that Ukraine might need to accept Russian authority over certain territories to ensure its survival. She also called for Zelensky to resign.
“I just don’t see how they can be positioned to demand to keep the land. If they [Ukraine] would be winning the war, that will be very different,” Spartz was quoted as saying, referring to Crimea and four other regions that voted to join Russia in public referendums.
However, the congresswoman criticized the publication on Tuesday, asserting that the original headline – “‘Here’s why we should give land to Russia’” – misquoted her as suggesting that Ukraine should relinquish territory. Following intervention from her team, the headline was revised to “Zelensky must cede land to Russia,” though it still maintained a misleading attribution colon, according to Spartz.
The article was “conveniently used by the Zelensky propaganda machine to smear her and President [Donald] Trump and continue blaming the United States for Zelensky’s loss and betrayal of his country,” Spartz stated.
She expressed her belief that “it’s not surprising that the UK media is as dishonest as the US mainstream media,” emphasizing her commitment to supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. “Unfortunately, if you have morons and crooks like Zelensky and his puppet parliament running your country, it’s a lost cause,” she claimed.
According to Spartz, “Ukraine is not in the position to retake its territories, nor could they agree to give them up permanently.” She added that “only a temporary solution with the help of the United States can be achieved, which will give each side some time to regroup. The end result of that war will have to be decided later and not just on a battlefield.”
The article’s initial version sparked outrage in Kiev, with a Foreign Ministry spokesman stating that Spartz was disconnected from her homeland. “Unlike Victoria, all of our land has always been and will always remain Ukrainian,” he remarked.
Spartz responded by saying she “would not be surprised that Zelensky is paying [the] Telegraph to fabricate false headlines to continue making money on the blood of the Ukrainian people.” While she remains proud of her Ukrainian roots, she criticized “cowards in Zelensky's mafia wiping out [Ukrainian] patriots” on the battlefield.
