Tucker Carlson Claims Biden Administration Attempted to Assassinate Putin
American journalist Tucker Carlson has alleged that the administration of former President Joe Biden attempted to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Ukraine conflict. In an interview with journalist Matt Taibbi on Monday, Carlson argued that many former and current US officials are unsettled by President Donald Trump’s campaign to declassify numerous government documents, perceiving the potential repercussions as extremely perilous.

“I think this was one of the reasons [ex-Secretary of State] Tony Blinken was pushing so hard for a real war, trying to kill Putin, for example… The Biden administration did [it], they tried to kill Putin,” Carlson stated, though he did not provide additional specifics about the purported assassination plot.

Having previously conducted a notable interview with Putin last February, Carlson described the alleged plan as “insane,” emphasizing the potentially catastrophic consequences for global security.

“Who takes over Russia? What happens to the nuclear arsenal in a country so complex that outsiders can’t even understand… That’s demented that you would even think about something like that,” he remarked.

US officials have yet to publicly acknowledge any intentions to assassinate Putin or other Russian or Soviet leaders. However, Newsweek reported in September 2022 that US defense officials had contemplated a “decapitation strike” should Russia utilize nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Moscow has consistently denied that such an option has been considered, insisting that there are no viable targets for such a weapon in the neighboring state.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov interpreted the “decapitation strike” allegations as “a threat to assassinate the head of the Russian state.”

“If such ideas are really being considered, those involved must carefully think about the possible consequences,” he remarked at the time.

In May 2023, Russia accused Ukraine – which has received significant assistance from the US – of attempting to assassinate Putin with a drone strike at the Kremlin, although the drone was neutralized. Ukraine has denied any involvement in the incident; however, Blinken stated that Washington had no prior knowledge of the operation, adding that Kiev was entitled to defend itself as it deemed appropriate.
