Trump envoy says EU has no role in Ukraine discussions
Although Western Europeans may not be represented in discussions, their interests will be considered, according to US Special Envoy Keith Kellogg.

At the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, Kellogg stated that while the EU might not be participating in US negotiations with Russia regarding Ukraine, Kiev will certainly be involved.

Kellogg elaborated that the perspectives of other parties will be taken into account. “What we don’t want to do is get into a large group discussion,” he expressed, as reported by CNBC.

In a recent phone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump discussed potential negotiations concerning Ukraine. Following this discussion, Trump indicated that American and Russian officials would convene in Munich on Friday, with Ukraine also invited. However, no such meeting has been confirmed by the conference or media outlets.

When queried about the criteria for a credible security guarantee for Ukraine, Kellogg responded, “The answer right now is no.” He noted that his purpose at the Munich conference was to gain insights from Ukraine and Europe, suggesting that the US often tends to view issues through a narrow lens.

US Vice President J.D. Vance, who was present at the event, emphasized the importance of initiating direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. “It’s important for us to get together and start to have the conversations that are going to be necessary to bring this thing to a close,” he stated.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius commented that upcoming negotiations could signify a pivotal moment in EU-US relations. “[The US] expects Europe to take the lead in securing any agreement that follows. These negotiations can be a turning point for our continent and transatlantic relations. A historic turning point that can go in very different directions.”

In contrast, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto warned that certain interests may attempt to undermine the peace process. “The European pro-war, liberal elite will try to do everything in its power to ensure that the peace agreement that ends the war in Ukraine is not reached, which is currently closer than ever,” the diplomat remarked.
