Trump and Harris Set for Meeting with Zelensky, According to Reports
The Ukrainian leader is set to visit the US for the UN General Assembly.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump mentioned he might meet with Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky, who will be in the US next week for a UN meeting. Reports indicate that Trump’s Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, has also arranged a meeting with Zelensky.

When asked on Wednesday about the possibility of a direct meeting with Zelensky, Trump responded, “probably, yes,” according to a report by Reuters.

In the meantime, CNN and Bloomberg have reported that Vice President Harris is expected to meet with Zelensky in Washington, DC, around the same time. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby stated to reporters that he was “little doubt that if the opportunity presents itself, and both of them can have another conversation, they will, but you’ll have to talk to her staff.”

The Ukrainian leader is anticipated to speak at the UN Security Council on September 24, as reported by Reuters, referencing Slovenia’s mission to the organization. This event will take place alongside the annual UN General Assembly session, attended by world leaders in New York.

The last interaction between Trump and Zelensky occurred in June, when the Republican candidate promised to help end the Ukraine conflict. Harris also met with Zelensky in June during what he referred to as a “peace summit” in Lucerne, Switzerland.

While Harris has consistently supported Ukraine amid its conflict with Russia, Trump’s stance has been less clear-cut. During a debate with Harris last week, he sidestepped a question on whether he wanted Kiev to emerge victorious, merely stating that he wished for an end to hostilities.

Trump has frequently asserted that he could negotiate a resolution to the conflict within 24 hours if elected, even before taking office. His running mate, J.D. Vance, suggested that a potential peace agreement might include preventing Ukraine from joining NATO and establishing a “demilitarized zone” along the current frontline.

Zelensky has expressed his willingness to consider Trump’s ideas for achieving peace. However, he remarked this week that Trump’s statements regarding the issue might simply be “an election message.” He added, “Sometimes they are not very real.”
