This summer, China's cultural and tourism market experiences a surge
China's summer travel season, which wrapped up on Saturday, was characterized by a vibrant array of cultural and tourism activities.
**Booming Tourism**
From July 1 to August 31, railways recorded a remarkable 887 million passenger trips, marking a 6.7 percent rise compared to the previous year, as reported by the China State Railway Group on Sunday.
Throughout the 62-day summer travel period, airlines transported more than 140 million passengers, reflecting a 12.4 percent increase year-on-year, according to data from the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
This summer holiday was a peak time for domestic tourism, with performances and museum visits emerging as significant drivers of cultural tourism consumption.
Data from the online travel agency Trip.com indicated a 70 percent increase in exhibition and performance-related orders compared to the preceding two months. Additionally, museum admission bookings surpassed those for theme parks, securing the top position among all scenic attractions.
The trend of discovering lesser-known cities and counties persisted in the domestic tourism landscape. Insights from the Qunar travel platform showed that summer hotel bookings in county areas surged by 113 percent month-on-month.
To bolster cultural and tourism consumption, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism organized around 37,000 activities nationwide, introducing new consumption scenarios and favorable policies.
**Film Market Innovation**
The summer box office in the Chinese mainland reached 11.6 billion yuan, with domestic films contributing over 72 percent of this total revenue.
The comedy "Successor" led the box office with an impressive 3.3 billion yuan.
Although the overall summer box office was lower than the previous year's figures, domestic films such as "Decoded," "Evacuate from the 21st Century," and "The Traveller" achieved notable breakthroughs and stylistic innovations, as highlighted by a report from the Lighthouse Research Institute.
