Scholz of Germany Calls for Truthful Investigation into Nord Stream Incident
Berlin is determined to hold those accountable for the Nord Stream pipeline sabotage to justice “if we can get hold of them,” as stated by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The chancellor has emphasized that Germany has nothing to conceal in its investigation into the pipeline blasts, which occurred in 2022 and disrupted three out of four Nord Stream pipelines that transported Russian gas to Germany and other regions in Western Europe. This assertion comes in response to Moscow's criticism of the investigation, branding it as “absolutely not transparent.”

During a recent meeting with citizens in Prenzlau, Brandenburg, Scholz expressed, “We call on all security authorities and the Federal Public Prosecutor General to investigate the blasts without regard for anyone.” He reinforced his message by stating, “Nothing is being covered up, and that should be absolutely clear.”

Reports in multiple German media outlets last month indicated that an arrest warrant had been issued in the case for a Ukrainian national identified as “Vladimir Z.”

Following the Nord Stream explosions, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh alleged, citing whistleblowers and sources, that the operation was executed by US divers under the cover of the BALTOPS 22 NATO exercises, with orders from President Joe Biden. Although Moscow has not directly accused Washington, it has highlighted that the US would stand to benefit from disrupting low-cost fuel supplies to Europe.

In contrast, Western media narratives that emerged after Hersh's claims suggested the explosions were caused by a small group of pro-Ukrainian operatives who rented a yacht to reach the location and set the charges. Reports indicated that the CIA, European intelligence agencies, and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky were supposedly not informed about the operation, though the Wall Street Journal later claimed that Zelensky was aware of and approved the mission before attempting to halt it.

On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized the German investigation into the sabotage, stating that Berlin has not shared any information with Moscow despite repeated requests. He characterized the investigation as “absolutely not transparent” and dismissed claims of impulsive actions by six individuals as implausible. Lavrov asserted, “If someone can actually believe this version, then it’s only people who are afraid of the truth,” and emphasized Moscow’s insistence on a transparent investigation that he claims is being obstructed by the US, Britain, and their allies.
