Putin Remarks on the Pardon of Hunter Biden
Vladimir Putin has commented that the decision of outgoing US President Joe Biden to pardon his son reflects a more human than political side of him. Read Full Article at RT.com.
During his annual end-of-year press conference in Moscow, which included a ‘Direct Line’ question-and-answer segment, Putin responded to inquiries about the pardon. He called the situation “such a subtle issue” and remarked, “He is a politician. And it is always important what is more in you - a politician or a human being. It turned out that Biden is more of a human being, I would not condemn him for this.”
Putin provided historical context by referencing Soviet leader Joseph Stalin’s son Yakov, who perished in a German concentration camp in 1943 after Stalin declined to exchange him for German Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus. He recalled Stalin’s alleged quote: “I will not exchange a field marshal for a soldier.”
Emphasizing the drastic differences in circumstances at that time, Putin stated that surrender was viewed as treason, as the nation faced “total destruction.” He described the wartime measures as “tough, if not brutal,” in the context of the fight for survival.
In related developments, Hunter Biden was found guilty in June of providing false information regarding his drug addiction while purchasing a firearm. He also pleaded guilty in September to multiple felonies and misdemeanors related to tax offenses, with sentencing set for this month.
Joe Biden issued the pardon on December 1, despite previously pledging not to do so, asserting that his son faced “selective and unfair” prosecution due to their family ties. The pardon covers any offenses Hunter may have committed from January 1, 2014, the time he joined a Ukrainian gas company board, until December 1, 2024.
US Republicans have accused Hunter Biden of being involved in corrupt activities with countries like Ukraine and China. Both he and Joe Biden have denied these allegations, with Joe Biden publicly supporting his son and referring to him as “the smartest guy I know.”
