Party leader claims Durov's arrest reveals the 'tyrannical face' of France
Florian Philippot, the leader of the Patriots Party in France (Les Patriotes), has criticized French President Emmanuel Macron's government, labeling them as “lunatics” in response to the detention of Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov.

Reports from French media indicate that Durov, a Russian entrepreneur who also holds French and UAE citizenship, was detained at Paris-Le Bourget Airport on Saturday and is scheduled to appear in court on Sunday evening. French authorities have reportedly issued an arrest warrant for Durov, claiming that insufficient moderation on Telegram has led to its widespread use by criminals.

"France offers its tyrannical face to the world,” remarked Philippot regarding Durov’s arrest in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday. He further emphasized the need to “free ourselves from these lunatics,” directing his criticism towards Macron’s administration.

Philippot also posed a question regarding Elon Musk, the owner of X and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, speculating whether he might also be detained in France for allegedly violating the European DSA (Digital Services Act) censorship regulations.

In related developments, Ekaterina Mizulina, head of Russia’s Safe Internet League, suggested that the French authorities may not have acted independently in their decision to detain Durov. She stated, “It is obvious that the arrest is an attack on TON (a blockchain-based platform originally developed by Telegram’s creators) in which major Russian companies have invested. That is, in part, a continuation of the US sanctions policy” against Russia.

Additionally, Vladislav Davankov, the deputy speaker of the Russian parliament, urged the French authorities to release Durov. He noted that the tech entrepreneur’s arrest “could be politically motivated and used to gain access to the personal information of Telegram users,” a situation Moscow cannot permit, as he mentioned in a post on Telegram.
