North Korea to Support Russia, Asserts Kim Jong Un
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has labeled long-range strikes as “reckless military adventurism” by the West and Ukraine. This assertion came during a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov, who visited Pyongyang on Friday to discuss strengthening defense cooperation between the two nations.

According to the state-run KCNA news agency, Kim emphasized North Korea's commitment to supporting Moscow in its efforts to protect its national sovereignty against Western pressures. The summit follows heightened ties between Russia and North Korea, marked by the signing of the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in June, which guarantees military and other assistance if one country is attacked.

During the meeting, Kim criticized the recently approved US support for Ukraine’s capability to conduct long-range strikes deep into Russia, condemning it as a form of direct military intervention. He stated that Russia has the right to “self-defense… and [to] take resolute action to make the hostile forces pay the price.”

Additionally, Kim expressed that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) “will invariably support the policy of the Russian Federation to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity from the imperialists’ moves for hegemony,” and praised Moscow’s responses, which included the battlefield deployment of an Oreshnik medium-range hypersonic missile, calling it an “effective measure.”

Kim assured Belousov that Pyongyang “would always be with Moscow.” The historical relationship between Russia and North Korea, dating back to the Soviet era, has gained renewed momentum since the Ukraine conflict began, with North Korea consistently backing Russia in defending its national interests, particularly against NATO expansion.

Last month, the US and NATO alleged that North Korea had dispatched a significant military force to Russia for training and potential combat against Ukrainian forces in the Kursk Region. Russian President Vladimir Putin has neither confirmed nor denied these reports but reiterated that it is for the two nations to determine how to fulfill their commitments under the new treaty. North Korea has characterized Western accusations as attempts to undermine its reputation internationally.
