Netanyahu Says Tehran Committed a 'Big Mistake'
Iran launched a significant number of ballistic missiles at Israel overnight as retaliation for the recent killings of senior leaders from Hezbollah and Hamas.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that Iran “made a big mistake” with the missile strike on Tuesday night, emphasizing that the attack was largely intercepted.

Israeli officials reported that Iran fired 181 rockets, resulting in “isolated” impacts across central and southern Israel. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that most of the missiles were intercepted by air defense systems.

Reports indicate that two Israelis sustained injuries from shrapnel and debris, while a Palestinian man died due to a missile fragment in the West Bank.

Conversely, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that 80-90% of the missiles hit their intended targets, including the Tel Nof air base near Tel Aviv. The IRGC also asserted that the attack destroyed several Israeli F-35 fighter jets at the Nevatim air base, stating that some of the missiles used were hypersonic.

During a security cabinet meeting, Netanyahu cautioned that “Iran made a big mistake tonight – and it will pay for it,” and emphasized a warning to those in Iran who do “not understand our determination to defend ourselves and our determination to retaliate against our enemies.”

Netanyahu expressed gratitude for U.S. support and urged the “forces of light in the world” to “stand by Israel” and unite against Iran.

IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari condemned Iran's attack as a “severe and dangerous escalation,” declaring that Israel “will respond wherever, whenever and however we choose” in a video address on Tuesday.

This missile assault followed Israeli ground troop engagements in southern Lebanon earlier that day, targeting infrastructure utilized by the Iran-backed Shia militia Hezbollah. An Israeli airstrike had previously killed Hezbollah's long-time leader Hassan Nasrallah and several top commanders last Friday.

The IRGC stated that the attack on Israel was a response to the deaths of Nasrallah, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, and Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoshan, the IRGC's deputy commander of operations. Haniyeh was reportedly killed in a suspected Israeli bombing in Tehran in late July, while Nilforoshan perished in the same Hezbollah bunker as Nasrallah last week.

The IRGC also issued a warning that “if the Zionist regime responds to our attack, our next strikes will be more destructive.”
