Pelosi, 84, was present in Luxembourg along with a bipartisan delegation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the WWII Battle of the Bulge.
Her office reported that she “sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” and highlighted that she is “receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals.”
The statement indicated that Pelosi will be “unable to attend” the remaining events scheduled for the congressional delegation but “looks forward to returning home to the US soon.”
There have been unverified reports suggesting that Pelosi may have fallen and broken her hip, which would necessitate surgery.
In July, Pelosi was reportedly a key figure who urged then-President Joe Biden to withdraw from the re-election race, paving the way for the Democrats to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris instead.
For 37 years, Pelosi has represented San Francisco in Congress and is regarded as one of the most influential Democrats in Washington. She holds the distinction of being the first woman elected as speaker of the House and led for four sessions of Congress.
