‘Muslim Women for Harris’ Dissolves Following DNC Controversy
Allegations have surfaced that the Democratic Party is stifling voices sympathetic to Palestine at their convention, a move that is potentially alienating voters supportive of the presidential candidate.

Recently, the advocacy organization Muslim Women for Harris announced its dissolution due to the exclusion of pro-Palestine voices at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) held in Chicago. The group expressed their dissatisfaction on Instagram, explaining that they could no longer support the initiative because the Vice President Kamala Harris' team had rejected a proposal from the Uncommitted movement to include a Palestinian American speaker at the event.

The statement from the group emphasized the importance of making the right choices at the DNC. It read, "We pray that the DNC and VP Harris team makes the right decision before this convention is over. For the sake of each of us."

On the same note, Abbas Alawieh of the Uncommitted National Movement criticized the DNC’s decision not to feature Palestinian American speakers. He expressed his dismay in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), arguing against the silencing of such important voices within the party, stating, "We think that’s unacceptable. We think that this is the party where we shouldn’t be silencing people’s voices."

To intensify their plea, the Uncommitted National Movement tweeted, waiting on a response from both Vice President Harris and the DNC, for the inclusion of a Palestinian American speaker.

The refusal to allow a pro-Palestinian speech at the DNC reportedly stemmed from concerns within the Democratic leadership that such a speech could disrupt the unity showcased at the convention, according to the Washington Post. However, no clear reasons were provided for this decision.

As the convention concluded, VP Harris, in her speech, highlighted ongoing efforts by the White House to manage the crisis involving Israeli hostages held by Hamas and reiterated her commitment to ensuring Israel’s defense capabilities.

Harris, who recently became the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, is set to run against Republican nominee Donald Trump in the upcoming November elections.
