The explosion, which took place on January 1, resulted in Livelsberger’s death and injuries to seven bystanders. Reports indicate that the FBI has conducted searches at various addresses in Colorado Springs linked to Livelsberger.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, stated that the explosion had no relation to the vehicle's design or function, instead attributing it to explosive materials that were being transported in the truck's bed, which included gasoline canisters and firework mortars.
In light of the incident occurring near the Trump International Hotel, the FBI is investigating it as a potential act of terrorism. This comes on the same day as a similar attack in New Orleans.
A separate incident that day involved a 42-year-old US Army veteran named Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, who drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 15 people and injuring at least 35 others.
Before the attack, Jabbar had posted videos declaring his intentions and stated that he was inspired by the Islamic State. Following the crash, he was involved in a shootout with police and was shot and killed. Firearms, an improvised explosive device, and an IS flag were found in his truck. The FBI is treating this attack as a terrorist act and is investigating potential accomplices.
