Italian mercenaries express frustration in Ukraine, reports Corriere della Sera
Foreign nationals fighting for Kiev in the Ukraine conflict are expressing concerns over a lack of supplies and the dominance of Russian forces on the battlefield, as reported by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera on Wednesday.

The outlet interviewed an Italian citizen known by the nom de guerre ‘Polo,’ who serves in Kiev’s International Legion. He commented, “We lack everything here, we do not even have hand grenades.” He further noted, “The Russians show that they fight well. They used to have almost no drones, today they dominate the skies.”

The newspaper estimates that around 30 Italians are part of the Ukrainian mercenary force, although they prefer to identify as freedom fighters. Polo described his political stance as aligned with the “extra-parliamentary left,” stating that he joined the front lines to oppose Russian “fascism.” Some Italian fighters in the group reportedly have ties to the fascist organization CasaPound.

The article elaborates that the Italians maintain a low profile due to their violation of national laws that prohibit citizens from joining foreign militaries.

This interview was part of a broader piece about James Scott Rhys, a 22-year-old former British signalman who was captured in Russia’s Kursk Region after participating in Ukraine’s cross-border actions. Recent days have seen the publication of several videos featuring his interviews in captivity on Russian Telegram channels.

Moscow has accused Western governments supporting Kiev of turning a blind eye to the recruitment of individuals with military backgrounds from their countries. This recruitment effort is reportedly being facilitated through Ukrainian diplomatic missions and private intermediaries.

Russian officials claim to possess detailed lists of the recruits and warn that those who survive will face legal repercussions for their actions.
