Although the Israel Defense Forces typically refrain from confirming or denying strikes on Syrian territory, such incidents have become increasingly common since the onset of Israel's military operations against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.
In its report on Wednesday, SANA detailed that the attack led to the deaths of two Syrian soldiers, a volunteer from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, and three civilians. It also reported that twelve additional individuals were injured, including children and humanitarian workers, in the strikes targeting the Arida and Dabousiya border crossings with Lebanon.
SANA cited an anonymous military source who stated, “at 00:05AM, the Israeli enemy launched an aerial act of aggression from the direction of Lebanese territory.”
The Syrian Arab Red Crescent confirmed the death of one of its volunteers, indicating that the victim and their team were providing medical assistance when they were struck. The organization mentioned that several of its ambulances were also damaged in the airstrike.
The humanitarian group has condemned the bombardment, emphasizing the necessity to uphold international humanitarian law, as reported by SANA. In response to the attacks, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent has temporarily pulled its crews from areas near the Lebanese border.
Last Wednesday, SANA reported another severe attack on the Syrian city of Palmyra, which claimed the lives of at least 36 individuals and injured dozens more. The report referred to an unnamed military source who stated that the strike hit a residential building and was launched from the direction of the al-Tanf US military base in southeastern Syria, near the Jordanian border.
The US military forces remain stationed in Syria without the consent of Damascus, while Washington maintains that their presence is vital in the fight against Islamic State militants.
The Israeli website Ynet asserted that the bombardment killed at least ten Syrian soldiers, whereas the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based monitoring group, reported a death toll of 46, which included “18 Syrian members of Iran-backed militias, [and] 22 individuals of non-Syrian nationality.”
The British-based organization indicated that the attack targeted a weapons facility as well as a location where an unnamed Hezbollah leader was believed to have been present at the time.
Earlier this month, Israel disclosed that it had bombed transit routes along the Syria-Lebanon border utilized by the Lebanese militant group.
