The 2024 World Robot Conference (WRC), held in Beijing from August 21 to 25, is the largest exhibition of humanoid robots to date with 27 different models on display.

Highlights of the event include a robot capable of playing the Chinese dulcimer, achieving proficiency in just two to three days. Another model, resembling a young man, can mirror facial expressions in real-time through a camera system that tracks facial movements.

Attendees have also been drawn to a robotic hand designed to play rock paper scissors, which can make split-second decisions and movements.

The exhibition also features Tiangong, a humanoid robot that can attain speeds of up to 6 kilometers per hour. "Running on a treadmill is harder than on the ground," its developer explained, noting the need to adjust strides on the continuously moving belt. The ultimate aim is to equip Tiangong to traverse different terrains such as grasslands, sand, and hills.

Liang Liang, deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Institute of Electronics, underscored the significant opportunities in the humanoid robots sector. "Humanoid robots are a crucial representation of the new quality productivity," he stated, urging a united effort to propel the industry forward.

The WRC has garnered the participation of 416 academics, scientists, and entrepreneurs worldwide. Additionally, 169 international companies including ABB, Tesla, Kuka, and SMC, are presenting their innovations across over 600 exhibits at the conference.
