FBI Conducts Search at Los Angeles Deputy Mayor's Home in Connection with City Hall Bomb Threat
FBI agents conducted a search of the residence of Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Brian Williams this week as part of an investigation related to a bomb threat directed at City Hall, where Williams is responsible for overseeing public safety.

The bomb threat, which occurred earlier this year, was addressed swiftly by the Los Angeles Police Department. They determined there was no immediate danger and subsequently referred the investigation to the FBI, according to Zach Seidl, a spokesperson for Mayor Karen Bass, who made this announcement on Wednesday.

In a statement, city police department officials indicated that their initial findings suggested Williams was “likely” the source of the threat. They chose to refer the case to the FBI due to his position supervising their department.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, Williams has been placed on administrative leave.

“The Mayor takes this matter very seriously,” Seidl stated.

Attempts to reach Williams for immediate comment were unsuccessful. The FBI has not provided any statements regarding the investigation, merely noting that no arrests have been made so far.

Williams was appointed by Bass in 2023 to oversee departments including the police and fire services as part of his role as deputy mayor of public safety. He also participated in Los Angeles’ "crisis response team" and previously held the position of executive director of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission.

This incident is the second time this year that Bass has faced a troubling public safety occurrence; in the spring, an intruder entered the mayor’s residence, an unsettling event that heightened concerns about crime in the city.
