Explosion Occurs Near Brazil's Supreme Court
Two explosions were triggered near government buildings in Brazil's capital on Wednesday evening, resulting in the death of one person.

The newspaper Folha de S.Paulo reported that the blasts in Brasilia were audible around 7:30 pm local time. The first detonation occurred outside the Supreme Federal Court, while the second explosion took place near the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of Brazil’s parliament.

Witnesses spoke to news outlet Universo Online, stating that a man carrying explosives approached the courthouse and detonated a bomb close to the ‘Lady Justice’ statue positioned at the entrance.

Authorities from the fire department and police confirmed the death of one individual but did not clarify whether this person was the attacker.

The incident transpired at Three Powers Plaza, where the Supreme Court, parliament, and presidential palace are situated.

A video shared on social media allegedly captures one of the explosions.

The courthouse has been evacuated, and sessions in both houses of parliament have been suspended.

Brasilia's governor, Ibaneis Rocha, referred to the bombing as a “suicide” attack.

According to Universo Online, the suspect is a 59-year-old man who had made threats on social media directed at politicians and Supreme Court justices.

Although the website did not disclose the suspect's name, it noted that he had resided in the southern state of Santa Catarina and had previously run for the city council in Rio do Sul in 2020, earning only 98 votes.
