The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that there were at least four fatalities and seven individuals sustained severe injuries among its ranks following the drone attack on an army base in Binyamina on Sunday. While Israeli media previously reported over 60 injuries in the vicinity, they did not disclose the specific target of the attack.
Earlier on Sunday, Hezbollah announced their operation against a Golani Brigade training camp located in Binyamina, which is situated south of Haifa—an area that has frequently come under attack by Hezbollah in recent weeks.
“A UAV launched by the Hezbollah terrorist organization hit an army base adjacent to Binyamina,” the IDF confirmed early Monday. “Four IDF soldiers were killed in the incident and an additional seven were severely injured.”
The drone reportedly breached Israeli air defenses and hit the base around 7 PM, with IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari stating that the military is investigating the circumstances that allowed the unmanned aerial vehicle to go undetected by air defenses.
Initial Israeli media reports indicated that 67 individuals were wounded in the Hezbollah drone strike in the Binyamina region on Sunday. Due to military censorship in Israel, sharing images or videos of the aftermath of these strikes is prohibited. However, unverified videos circulating on social media purportedly depict a canteen with a damaged roof and blood stains on the floor.
Additionally, in related news, American journalist Jeremy Loffredo was arrested in the West Bank while covering the aftermath of a recent Iranian strike on Israel. Loffredo is reportedly facing charges of “aiding the enemy during wartime and providing information to the enemy.”
Although Hezbollah and Israel have engaged in reciprocal strikes over the past year, Israel has intensified its military operations against the Lebanese group in the past month. After a series of explosions caused by handheld electronics, which resulted in numerous fatalities and injuries throughout Israel, West Jerusalem conducted significant bombing and limited ground operations against Lebanon, actions widely believed to have been orchestrated by Israel.
While the IDF has publicly acknowledged that approximately two dozen of its soldiers have died in Lebanon, Hezbollah asserts that the actual number of Israeli casualties is significantly higher.
