China Plans to Construct 10,000 Factories Equipped with 5G by 2027
China has set an ambitious goal to establish 10,000 factories powered by 5G and no fewer than 20 pilot cities for the integrated application of 5G + industrial internet by 2027, as outlined in a plan released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Monday.

This initiative seeks to accelerate the integration of information and communication technology by harnessing data, with a focus on creating a new industrial network system characterized by 5G.

The plan specifies that by 2027, 5G + Industrial Internet will be widely integrated into pivotal sectors of the real economy, targeting five key areas: network infrastructure, technological products, integrated applications, industrial ecosystems, and public services.

Tang Libo from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology commented to China Media Group that addressing future industrial needs will require a comprehensive approach to technologies such as 5G-A, AI, new industrial control systems, and industrial computing power to foster the growth of a new industrial network system.

"This will enhance the coordination between the industrial internet and key industrial chains, collectively fostering a high-quality development ecosystem for the industrial internet," Tang noted.

Presently, China boasts over 17,000 5G+ industrial internet projects across all 41 major industrial sectors. Additionally, the country has established more than 4,000 5G factories, with 700 recognized by MIIT as high-level 5G factories, showcasing significant applications in industries such as manufacturing, mining, power, and ports.
