Advancements in China's Laser Industry Position it Among Global Leaders
China has made notable strides in the development of laser technology, breaking decades of foreign dominance in key areas and positioning itself as a global leader, according to Ma Xinqiang, a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress and chairman of Huagong Technology, during a recent interview.

Laser technology is crucial for the production of 70 percent of components across industries such as smartphones and automotive manufacturing. Ma explained that China, historically limited by foreign technology controls, has made domestic innovation a priority to lessen these dependencies, particularly ahead of the second plenary meeting of the third session of the 14th NPC.

Huagong Technology has made advancements in laser welding equipment for vehicle bodies, effectively ending a 40-year dependency on imported solutions, Ma pointed out. This achievement has not only cut equipment costs by more than 40 percent but has also established a new industry efficiency record, completing laser welding for a new energy vehicle body in just 43 seconds. These developments have bolstered the domestic production of 45 million vehicles and led to the creation of over 100 specialized laser solutions for various industrial applications.

Ma emphasized that the pace of development within China's laser industry has accelerated significantly, accomplishing in a decade what typically took 30 years elsewhere. The nation has also led the way in establishing its first international laser industry standard, thereby contributing to global benchmarks. This progress has resulted in a remarkable 35 percent annual growth rate in overseas markets for Chinese-developed equipment, signifying a transformation in the global laser industry landscape. Additionally, these advancements have enhanced access to advanced laser technologies for domestic manufacturers, Ma added.
