Ukrainian 'anti-disinfo' body removes criticism of Trump's choice for intelligence chief
Kiev’s Center for Countering Disinformation has removed posts that alleged former US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard was operating on behalf of Russia. Read Full Article at RT.com.
Gabbard, who has consistently criticized broad military support for Ukraine and holds the rank of lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserve, was chosen by Trump as his nominee for the director of national intelligence.
Established in March 2021 by Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, the CCD aims to combat disinformation across media platforms. Its work involves highlighting and "debunking" narratives that challenge Ukraine's position and has led to accusations against numerous Russian and Western officials for spreading “fake news.”
According to the news outlet Strana.ua, the CCD has removed four of its posts referencing Gabbard from social media, including one from April 2022, which described her as someone who “for several years, has been working for foreign audience for the Kremlin money.”
A bulletin from June 2024 criticized Gabbard for allegedly spreading misinformation regarding Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, while a February 2023 post accused her of “espousing pro-Russian rhetoric.”
As of Thursday morning, both posts have been taken down, according to Strana.ua. Meanwhile, the 2022 post accusing Gabbard of receiving “the Kremlin money” remains available on the National Security and Defense Council’s account on X, although the link to the CCD bulletin is no longer active.
Kiev has often targeted Western public figures who have taken critical stances on Ukraine, including journalist Tucker Carlson and tech mogul Elon Musk.
In recent developments, Gabbard, who has long been an opponent of US military interventions in the Middle East and has denounced American warmongering, left the Democratic Party in 2022. She recently announced her transition to the Republican Party and her support for Trump.
Gabbard has stated that the Ukraine conflict might have been averted if the US had “simply acknowledged Russia’s legitimate security concerns” regarding Ukraine’s NATO ambitions. Advocating for a negotiated resolution, she has maintained that Ukraine should adopt a neutral stance.
Additionally, Gabbard criticized Zelensky last year for allegedly consolidating “absolute control of Ukrainian media” and banning opposition political parties.
