The Guardian recently hinted at Britain's approval for Ukraine to deploy 'Storm Shadow' missiles, citing unnamed government sources who believe there won't be an official announcement. Pushkov responded to these developments on his Telegram account, stating, "The decision to strike Russian territory is clearly being prepared. There are too many conversations and hints about it for it to be reversed. Even if it has not been made yet, it looks like it will be a matter of days. The leak via The Guardian is not accidental. Public opinion is being prepared."
Originally, there were restrictions on how Ukraine could use the weapons supplied by the West, purportedly to keep the US and its allies from being seen as direct participants in the conflict. Yet, as the situation has evolved, there is mounting pressure from Kiev to remove these limitations.
Reports also indicate that during his visit to Kiev, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken suggested the US might allow Ukraine to use long-range ATACMS missiles against Russian targets. This sentiment was echoed during discussions involving British Foreign Secretary David Lammy in Kiev, where the issue of Iranian missile shipments to Russia was labeled as a serious escalation influencing decisions in both London and Washington.
Lammy highlighted in comments reported by the Guardian, “The escalator here is [Russian President Vladimir] Putin. Putin has escalated with the shipment of missiles from Iran. We see a new axis of Russia, Iran and North Korea.”
Meanwhile, the Russian reaction remains firm, with Russian ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, expressing a severe stance, “It is impossible to negotiate with terrorists. They must be destroyed,” also stating that during significant conflicts like the Great Patriotic War, certain ideologies must be completely eradicated to ensure the objectives of their special military operation are achieved.
Concurrently, Iran refutes allegations of missile shipments to Russia, dismissing them as "psychological warfare" by nations that are heavily supporting Ukraine militarily.
As the debate intensifies, statements from within the US political sphere, such as an open letter from 27 US congressmen and senators to President Joe Biden, does not mention the Iranian missiles but declares the shift in war dynamics following Ukraine’s activities in Russia’s Kursk Region, and emphasizes resistance against perceived tyranny by Putin.
With the stakes escalating, Russia warns against the severe repercussions of enabling Ukraine to carry out deep strikes within its borders, with Russian President Vladimir Putin cautioning NATO members about the gravity of their actions and the Russian military, along with officials, preparing for all possible outcomes.
