Trump Praises Russia's "great winter fighting"
The former US president has stated his intention to resolve the Ukraine conflict before the year’s end.

Donald Trump, the former US president and current Republican presidential candidate, expressed his views on the Russia-Ukraine conflict during a recent hour-long interview released on Monday. The discussion, which features “unfiltered stories of heroic events and current world issues,” is hosted by Shawn Ryan, a former US Navy SEAL and CIA contractor.

“Russia’s a great winter fighter,” Trump remarked during the conversation. “They beat Germany and they beat Napoleon. They’re not easy to beat. And they are a massive military, and Ukraine isn’t. But Ukraine has us giving them a lot of money.”

According to estimates from the Kiel Institute, a German think tank tracking aid contributions, the US and its allies have provided over $400 billion in assistance to Ukraine since the conflict began in 2022, with more than $120 billion designated for direct military support.

Trump expressed concern over the US contributing the majority of military aid, suggesting that NATO’s European members should “equalize” their contributions.

“That war is much more devastating than people understand,” Trump noted in the interview, promising to have the situation “settled” as president-elect rather than waiting for his inauguration in January.

He has consistently claimed that if he had remained in the White House, the conflict would not have erupted after Joe Biden took office in 2021 and has asserted he could halt the fighting within 24 hours.

This isn’t the first instance where Trump has commended the Russian “war machine.” He initially referenced it during a Fox News town hall in February and reiterated his remarks in July when discussing a phone call with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

When asked by Ryan about the potential allocation of the $175 billion Congress has designated for Ukraine assistance, Trump pointed out that the US carries over $30 trillion in national debt. He also expressed disappointment over the Pentagon depleting the stockpile he had worked to restore during his presidency.

“These guys gave it all to Ukraine,” Trump stated. “Now we have no ammunition again.”
